![]() ![]() What and Why: DIY guys who’ve been around a while will know about the nearly infinite AudioKarma thread on replacing the tweeter on old two-way speakers with a compression driver and modern waveguide. The sound was very pleasant and the sound stage was great. My story of an Econowave conversion of Utility Large Advents. I had two of the Advents stacked woofer to woofer about ten feet apart and the other one to the inside on a stand that centered it against the stack, woofer down. I didn't care about the amp running hot because being in service I had the mindset if it dumped I would just fix it. It ran hot when pushed and I pushed it all the time, as loud as it would play without clipping. I had six Advents, three per side wired in parallel for less than a four ohm load connected to a Kenwood KR 9400, rated at 120 watts per channel. Stacked Advents, good as they were, did not compare to stacked Infinities, stacked ARs, stacked JBLs. but a pair costing $300 each speaker compared to $130 for each original advent in walnut made the Advents more attractive to stack and the sound was quite good. The general conclusion is that stacked anything sounded better than a single pair. At the store we experimented stacking different pairs of speakers and comparing them against each other. ![]()
